Palm Oil Exports to Europe
In 2006, APO has exported a record 110,000 tonnes of crude palm oil from Malaysia Ports. This included the first ever shipments of palm oil for European markets, including this vessel loading 10,000 tonnes of APO oil for delivery to Rotterdam and Hamburg.
News Update : November 2006 International Society of Oil Palm Breeders visit APO Research Centre
Over 60 oil palm breeders from around the world visited Malaysia in November 2006 for the ISOPB International Conference. The delegates visited the APO Oil Palm Research Centre, where the company’s hybrid progeny trials were discussed.
It was widely acknowledged that the breeding programme is producing some exceptionally promising material and that production methods in the APO seed production unit are to world-class standards.
News Update : February 2006 Directors visit APO Oil Palm Research Centre
The Strategic Planning Subcommittee of the Alpha Palm Oil Board visited the Company’s Oil Palm Research Centre to review research strategies and inspect the new Tissue Culture and seed production laboratories. Alpha Palm Oil now has 607 hectares of oil palm field trials, mainly focused on testing more than 400 new hybrid progeny from the company’s breeding programme.

Expanding Seed Exports to India
There has been increasing overseas interest in oil palm seeds from the APO breeding programme, especially from countries where there is an annual dry season. Alpha Palm Oil planting material has been selected for increased tolerance of this seasonal drought stress which occurs regularly in Malaysia. APO receives Best Performance Award for Agro-Food Sector
At a glittering gala dinner for the 2005 Malaysia Business Leaders Awards, Alpha Palm Oil took away the top award in the Agro-Food Sector and the company’s Managing Director, Paul Vincent Leonardi, was one of eight nominees for Malaysia’s CEO of the Year.
In the first phase of judging a team from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business (Chicago GSB) shortlisted companies based on four performance measures : Sales Growth, Operating Margin, Earnings before Interest (EBIT) Per Employee and Return on Capital Employed (ROCE)
The second phase of the judging involved face-to-face interviews with a team from Development Dimensions International (DDI), a global consulting company specialising in leadership development, DDI worked closely with Chicago GSB to evaluate the performance of all semi-finalists based on a set of key parameters.
